‘Lewis Brander: Recent Paintings’ featured in ‘London art exhibitions: Plaster staff picks’

“We talk about ‘the sky’ but do we see the same sky? Scientists, philosophers and artists all have their own answers, but artists might have the most convincing. Lewis Brander’s paintings capture the skies seen from his studios in Athens and East London, all the way from cadmium red to verdigris. They’re postcards recording a specific place at a specific time. But I found they’re capable of reaching down and bringing up deeply personal memories that I’d otherwise forgotten. Go and visit, and see if you see what I see.” – Jacob Wilson
