Alex Vardaxoglou is thrilled to announce a solo exhibition of new work by British artist Mimi Hope (b. 1994), titled Stars and Skies, at our space in Holland Park, London.

In the exhibition Hope disassembles well-known cultural tropes of desire; the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the National Lottery, and in doing so interrogates their role and validity in contemporary society. In addition to her acclaimed Clouds series Hope will present a new body of work entitled Stars comprised of carpet tiles cut into a five-pointed star, an exact proportional replica of those in the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The carpet material evokes the offices, waiting rooms and mundane elements of ordinary life, while the star symbolises the very pinnacle of success and attainment, the glory of the American Dream, drawing into stark contrast the tension between dream and reality.
